MRSA - tough to treat

Q. Why is an MRSA infection so difficult to treat?

'For many years we had antibiotics that could treat any staphylococcus infection, which is the family of bacteria that MRSA belongs to.

'MRSA is a problem because it is resistant to most of these antibiotics and so they can't be used to cure a patient of an MRSA infection. There are only a limited number of antibiotics that will work when a patient gets MRSA, so it is hard to treat.'
