Two of the UK's scientific bodies, the Royal Society and the Royal Academy of Engineering, have recently looked into nanotechnology and its applications. And their report urges caution where the environment is concerned.

Until more is known about environmental impacts of nanoparticles and nanotubes, they recommend that the release of manufactured nanoparticles and nanotubes into the environment be avoided as far as possible.
