Driving the forgers dotty
Counterfeiting currency could become harder if the Bank of England starts to make use of nanotechnology. A quantum dot is a nanoparticle that will shine with a very specific colour. The colour of a dot depends on its size.
Combinations of differently coloured dots would create complex codes that forgers would find very hard to fake. In the future they could be hidden in banknotes, credit cards, gift vouchers and even casino chips.
