New model army
Nanotechnologies are set to make it onto the battlefield. In the future, soldiers could be safer inside lightweight bulletproof uniforms. And their weapons could be lighter, stronger and more powerful.
However, the first military applications of nanotechnology are likely to be in information systems and communications. National defence will be boosted by increased surveillance and large numbers of nanosensors to detect chemical and biological threats.
