Nanomaterials will provide protection from bullets, shrapnel and blast waves. The material is filled with channels of fluid that allow the soldier to move around easily. But when it experiences an impact, such as a bullet, the liquid changes its properties and becomes hard. A sniper's shot would be unlikely to give more than a nasty bruise.
