Small balls of carbon
The most famous nanoparticle is the 'buckyball'. A British scientist called Harry Kroto discovered it by accident when his team burnt some carbon. So far it's not been used a lot.
The buckyball is exactly the same shape as a football, but 30 billion times smaller. Like a football, a buckyball can spin and bounce. Scientists hope to make use of these properties one day.
