'Imagine visiting your doctor and within minutes knowing your risk of developing heart disease,' says Kevin Lorimer of Oxford Biosensors.
This may soon be a reality, as a new sensor enters clinical trials this summer. Nano-sized molecules in the strip in the top of the instrument detect the levels of five danger substances. Your doctor can immediately read the results from the handset.
The sensor could also be used to test for diseases of the liver and kidney, as well as other medical conditions.
