New connections

Austrian scientists at Graz University and Heidelberg University Hospital have connected a brain-computer interface (BCI) to an FES system, allowing paralysed people to control their own muscles with their minds. Instead of giving instructions to a computer, brain signals picked up by the Graz cap control an FES system to move the wearer's own muscles.

Researchers have already succeeded in restoring grasping motion to people who can't control the movement of their hand muscles. But this still requires people to wear lots of bulky equipment.
