If a stroke affects the part of your brain that controls movement - the motor cortex - then your arms or legs can be weakened or paralysed. Patients usually have physiotherapy to help them learn how to use their limbs again.

By stimulating the brain with a magnetic pulse, using transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), scientists hope to make the therapy more effective.
