Gordon is a moron?

Other scientists are more doubtful about Gordon's potential. 'There's no intelligence here - really they're just using neurons as wiring,' says Noel Sharkey, robot researcher at the University of Sheffield.

Murray Shanahan, robot expert at Imperial College London, doubts that it's possible to grow a big brain from scratch for Gordon. 'A rat's brain is not just an amorphous blob of neurons - it's a complex structure that's evolved over millions of years.'

Gordon
Gordon's 'brain' only consists of between 50,000 and 100,000 neurons - less than 1% of the 200 million neurons in a rat's brain, but many times bigger than the brain of a snail.
