The robot cubes in action

The robot is made up of cubes, each containing a microprocessor. Feed it with extra cubes, which it uses as building material, and it will assemble an identical copy of itself.

A robot made of four cubes can copy itself in two and a half minutes; a three-cube robot takes just over one minute.
