Pipsqueaks
Landers that are designed to touch down on another planet, moon or comet have to be small enough to be carried by their mother ships. This means their antennas transmit signals too weak to communicate directly with Earth.
They've got to rely on the mother ship to send the message home, so space investigators back on Earth have to wait until the lander and orbiter are lined up properly before they can send or receive signals.
