The plot thickens

The Earth's greenhouse effect keeps us cosy. Gases in the atmosphere act like an insulating blanket around the planet, warming it up. But many scientists are worried that Earth's hotting up too much. Venus shows the extreme results of the greenhouse effect.

'Venus is like the Earth with a massive greenhouse effect that's gone into overdrive. It's hard to imagine how deep and thick the atmosphere on Venus really is. Although it's still gas, it's as thick as water on the Earth, it's a pea soup sort of atmosphere.' Manuel Grande
