Ideal home
Earth has everything life requires. There's water - essential for the carbon-based life forms we're familiar with. Solar energy powers the chemical reactions going on inside living organisms. The ozone layer protects us from the Sun's harmful rays and our planet's moving molten middle generates a magnetic shield from charged particles that stream through space.
On a non-ideal world organisms would need to find safe locations to live, or develop mechanisms to cope with harsh conditions.
