Truth stranger than fiction?

'Normally stem cells produce other cells by dividing in two; one remains a stem cell and another produces a specific cell type, for example a red blood cell. This is what we all thought was going on when stem cells became liver cells. But, truth is sometimes stranger than fiction and what really happens is that the genetically normal cells from the bone marrow fuse with the diseased liver cells, and transfer their genetic material into the liver cell. The result is a genetically corrected liver cell, which can grow and expand and correct the liver disease.'
