Scientists are also excited about stem cells because they bring potential to treat disease in a new way:

'In diseases where cells are missing or damaged, doctors hope that stem cells can be forced to form new tissue. But most of this is still at the testing stage,' says Nick.

'And long term, if we can use stem cells to better understand how cells repair themselves, we hope to be able to trick body cells to repair themselves without adding any stem cells at all.'
