Why not wait?

Why don't doctors wait for the baby to be born?

'If we had to deliver the baby early in order to do a lifesaving procedure, the baby would weigh only about 1kg. That makes the procedure much more tricky. The baby's lungs aren't properly developed, and it would have to be on a ventilator and perhaps be sick in an intensive care unit for very many weeks. This could lead to other secondary problems like brain damage or hearing difficulties later in life.'
