Dwarves and crop giants
In the 1960s breeders produced a mini miracle crop called semi-dwarf rice. Its shrunken stems meant it didn't fall over as easily as regular rice and it boasted a super-sized yield from bog-standard fertilisers.
Semi-dwarf rice played a major part in the 'green revolution' that led to all-time record rice yields right across Asia.
