Science Museum Brought to Life: Exploring the History of Medicine ("Brought to Life")

The Brought to Life Rules ("the Rules") and Terms and Conditions set out below represent the agreement between "you" and "the Museum" for your use of the Brought to Life website. For the purposes of this agreement the Museum shall mean the Board of Trustees of the Science Museum. The Museum may also be referred to as "us", "we" or "our" in these Rules and Terms and Conditions.

Terms of Website use

This page (together with the documents referred to on it) tells you the terms of use on which you may make use of our website www.sciencemuseum.org.uk/broughttolife ("the Website"), whether as a guest or a registered user. Please read these terms of use carefully before you start to use the Website. By using our Website, you indicate that you accept these terms of use and that you agree to abide by them. If you do not agree to these terms of use, please refrain from using our Website.

Please use the information on this site appropriately and recognise that it deals with medical history only. You must not use this website as a source of advice about medicine. Should you need advice on medicine or treatments please contact a suitably qualified professional.

Accessing our Website

Access to our Website is permitted on a temporary basis, and we reserve the right to withdraw or amend the service we provide on our Website without notice (see below). We will not be liable if for any reason our Website is unavailable at any time or for any period.

From time to time, we may restrict access to some parts of our Website, or our entire Website, to users who have registered with us.

If you choose, or you are provided with, a user identification code, password or any other piece of information as part of our security procedures, you must treat such information as confidential, and you must not disclose it to any third party. We have the right to disable any user identification code or password, whether chosen by you or allocated by us, at any time, if in our opinion you have failed to comply with any of the provisions of these terms of use.   • Be threatening, abuse or invade another’s privacy, or cause annoyance, inconvenience or needless anxiety.
  • Be likely to harass, upset, embarrass, alarm or annoy any other person.
  • Be used to impersonate any person, or to misrepresent your identity or affiliation with any person.
  • Give the impression that they emanate from us, if this is not the case.
  • Advocate, promote or assist any unlawful act such as (by way of example only) copyright infringement or computer misuse.

    Prohibited Use

    You agree not to use this Website:

  • to create a database (electronic or otherwise) that includes material downloaded or otherwise obtained from this website except where expressly permitted on the Website;
  • to disseminate advertisements or for any other commercial purposes (which would include using the Website to promote or encourage the sale of your goods/services);
  • to transmit or re-circulate any material obtained from this website to any third party except where expressly permitted on this website;
  • in such a way so as to remove the copyright or trade mark notice(s) from any copies of any material made in accordance with these terms;
  • to disseminate any unsolicited or unauthorised advertising, promotional materials, "junk mail," "spam," "chain letters," "pyramid schemes," or any other form of solicitation;
  • to disseminate any material which is abusive, defamatory or obscene, may harass, offend or inconvenience any person, applauds, encourages or entices abuse, discrimination or criminal activity or which might restrict or inhibit the use and enjoyment of the Website by any person;
  • to disseminate any material that contains software viruses or any other computer code, files or programs designed to interrupt, damage, destroy or limit the functionality of any computer software or hardware or telecommunications equipment;
  • in any way that might infringe third party privacy or other rights, is unlawful or that might bring the Museum or any of its subsidiaries into disrepute; or
  • to post link(s) that take users to material that contravenes any of the above restrictions.

    Images

    The Museum has made reasonable efforts to obtain permission (where necessary) to use the Images on the Website and, so far as the Museum is aware (and to the best of its knowledge) all of the Images have been cleared for such use. The Museum requests that any owners of copyright in the Images who have not been properly identified or credited on the Website contact us at feedback@nmsi.ac.uk so that we may consider making the appropriate corrections.

    You are only permitted to use the Images in accordance with these terms and conditions and in accordance with all instructions and directions contained in the Website. You are not permitted to use any Image, Images or any part of any Image for any other use whatsoever, including, for the avoidance of doubt (and without limitation), any commercial use. For any non-personal use of the Images you must obtain the prior written permission of the Museum or the relevant rights holder.

    Intellectual Property Rights

    We are the owner or the licensee of all intellectual property rights in our Website, and in the material published on it. Those works are protected by copyright laws and treaties around the world. All such rights are reserved.

    The Museum hereby grants to you a limited licence to use the content and services provided by the Museum on the Website solely for your personal, non-commercial use (giving the original author credit) and subject to these terms and conditions. Where the Website contains content from a source other than the Museum, you may only use and reproduce such content with the permission of the relevant rights holder.

    You must not modify the paper or digital copies of any materials you have printed off or downloaded in any way, and you must not use any illustrations, photographs, video or audio sequences or any graphics separately from any accompanying text.

    If you print off, copy or download any part of our Website in breach of these terms of use, your right to use our Website will cease immediately and you must, at our option, return or destroy any copies of the materials you have made.
