  • rabies

    Rabies is a disease which infects domestic and wild animals. It is a virus transmitted to other animals and humans through close contact with saliva from those infected (i.e. bites, scratches, licks on broken skin). Once symptoms of the disease develop, rabies is fatal.

  • radiation

    Transmission of any type of energy by means of rays, waves or as mobile sub-atomic particles (electrons, neutrons and protons).

  • radiation therapy

    A type of medical treatment that uses high energy radiation such as X-rays.

  • radio receiver

    Devices that convert radio waves into intelligible sounds or other perceptible signals.

  • radio signals

    A code or message delivered via a radio or interpreter most often in the form of sound.

  • radio telescope

    Form of directional radio antenna used in radio astronomy and for tracking and collecting data from satellites and space probes. They differ fromoptical telescopes in that they operate in the radio frequency portion of the electromagnetic spectrumwhere they can detect and collect data on radio sources

  • radiology

    The scientific study of X-rays and other high energy radiation, especially as used in medicine.

  • raft

    Refers to a wide variety of watercraft that are essentially floating platforms, more or less rigid or stationary and buoyant, constructed without interior volume and in a way that cannot keep water out.

  • rail and fishplate profile set

    A set of gauges for measuring the profiles of both the rail and the fishplate.

  • rail gauge

    A tool for measuring the profile of the rail.

  • rail profile

    A thin section of rail used for checking the wear on the surface of the rail.

  • rail profile matrix

    A gauge for measuring the profile of the rail.

  • rail profile set

    A set of gauges for measuring the profiles of both the rail and the fishplate.

  • rail section

    A thin section of rail used for checking the wear on the surface of the rail.

  • railbus

    A lightweight low capacity diesel or petrol railcar with bus or bus type body, for passenger services on branch or other low-traffic lines.

    Parapets or balustrades of a lightweight, partly open, metal or wood construction.

  • railway wagon

    Any railway vehicle used for transporting goods.

  • rain-gauge

    An instrument for collecting and measuring the rainfall.. It consists essentially of a receiver, made of iron, copper etc., usually of circular form, and of a graduated glass measure accurately calibrated from the area of the receiving surface of the gauge

  • razor

    Sharp-edged instruments primarily used in the shaving of bodily hair. Razors can be manually or electrically powered, and the earliest bronze razor blade dates back to the Bronze Age.
