yam
The starchy tuberous root of various species of Dioscorea, largely cultivated for food in tropical and subtropical countries, where it takes the place of the potato.

Yasargil clip
Named after the Turkish micro-neurosurgeon M. Gazi Yasargil, it is an instrument used in surgery on the brain, in particular the treatment of aneurysms (blood filled bulges of blood vessels).
yellow fever
Infectious viral disease of hot climates. Symptoms include vomiting, constipation and jaundice.
yoga
