yam
The starchy tuberous root of various species of Dioscorea, largely cultivated for food in tropical and subtropical countries, where it takes the place of the potato.
yantra
A geometrical diagram used as an aid to meditation
Yasargil clip
Named after the Turkish micro-neurosurgeon M. Gazi Yasargil, it is an instrument used in surgery on the brain, in particular the treatment of aneurysms (blood filled bulges of blood vessels).
yellow fever
Infectious viral disease of hot climates. Symptoms include vomiting, constipation and jaundice.
yoga
Originally a Hindu spiritual practice, yoga is a system of meditation, breathing and a series of body positions. Yoga is carried out globally.
