Personal Information Carrier (PIC) Smart Cards from the Department of the Navy in the United States Government allow easy access to a sailor’s medical history and shows whether a sample of DNA is preserved. The card can be scanned to give clinical history and updated in the field when medical treatment is needed. DNA samples are used to identify remains. This example is for a captain in the United States Navy. The card was donated to the Science Museum’s collection by the Department of the Navy of the United States government.
