Copy of a Hooker Oxygenator, Europe

First described by D Hooker in 1916, this is a copy of an oxygenator used in physiological research. The oxygenator consists of a glass jar containing a spinning disc driven by a motor. Blood flows into the jar and is spun by the disc onto the sides. Here it makes contact with oxygen from a gas cylinder. The oxygenated blood flows out at the bottom of a jar and is pumped back to the organ, in this case a kidney.
