Model of a field hospital bed, England, 1914-1918
Hinged at the middle and each leg, this bed can be folded to a third of its size. The model represents a bed likely to be found in field hospitals behind the front lines of battle or used by men usually awaiting transport home during the First World War. The canvas mattress is stretched across the frame and tied in place and the collapsible nature of the bed means that it can easily be packed up and transported.
