Plaque showing stretcher bearers carrying the wounded, United Kingdom, 1914-1920
Throughout the First World War, the sight of stretcher bearers carrying the wounded would have been a familiar one. This plaster plaque was probably made as a preliminary model for a larger sculpture – perhaps to commemorate the dead or the services of medical teams and stretcher bearers.
