Silver medicine measure, Europe, 1831-1870
Medicine measures like this one were a means to measure medicines accurately both in the home and at the pharmacy. (Even small overdoses of certain drugs can be dangerous or even fatal.) The larger end measures four drams (approximately 14 ml) and the smaller two drams (7 ml). Each end is lipped to make it easier to pour the liquid.
