Barber surgeon's case, France, 1715-1830

Inside the silk-lined oak case are twenty shaving accessories, including an assortment of glass and pewter bottles to carry and heat water and porcelain cups and brushes to apply shaving soap and cream to the face. The kit also contains two very sharp razors, commonly known as cut-throat razors. As well as shaving and haircutting, barber-surgeons performed medical treatments such as bloodletting, and tended to minor injuries and wounds. The shaving bowl, with detachable chin plate, could possibly have been used to catch blood let from a vein.
