Flannelgraphs employ pictures, involve discussion and can be used to educate people who may have limited literacy skills. The health worker would be given a script with questions to prompt discussion on a topic, in this case diarrhoea. The audience is taught how to prevent the spread of diarrhoea by improving personal hygiene and general cleanliness. They are also taught how to care for those with diarrhoea. Flannelgraphs are a useful tool as they are easy to transport, quick to set up, re-usable and adaptable to the direction of the discussion. The flannelgraph is made by TALC (Teaching Aids at Low Costs), founded in 1965 by Professor David Morley to distribute teaching aids to improve health care worldwide.
