Model of Jenning's patent water closet, England, 1895-1905

Invented by George Jennings (1810-882), this sales model shows the ‘century’ water closet or toilet, complete with its own toilet paper. Jennings installed public conveniences at the Great Exhibition of 1851, and at many other London sites. Jennings argued for “[public] conveniences suited to this advanced stage of civilisation”. In 1906, a Jennings-type water closet cost £8 2 shillings and 6 pence.
