Two oxygen cylinders in wooden case, Germany, 1914-1918

Inside these two gas cylinders was highly pressurised oxygen which has only recently been removed (for safety reasons). The cylinders are from a set of eight that were supplied to the German Army during the First World War. The oxygen was probably inhaled through a face mask by a patient undergoing surgery or by a soldier with breathing difficulties because of a gas attack.
