Double obstetrical fillet, York, England, 1851-1900
A fillet is an obstetric tool. It aids the passage of a child down the birth canal. It is a flexible appliance that loops around the baby, usually at the head. The physician then applies traction to assist the delivery. This example of a double fillet is made of two connected loops thought to be made of whalebone.
