Polaroid of ultrasound scan, London, England, 1981
Ultrasound scanning produced this photograph of a 17 week-old foetus in the uterus. The mother’s abdominal wall is at the top of the picture. Slightly below and to the right of the baby’s head is its trunk. A limb alongside the trunk can also be seen. The scan was taken at University College Hospital, London. It was re-photographed to produce this Polaroid picture. Parents are given photographs or DVDs of ultrasound screenings to take home with them.
