Diorama of the Lister Ward at the Glasgow Royal Infirmary, London, England, 1945-1950

This 3-D model or diorama depicts the ward where Joseph Lister (1827-1912) pioneered his antiseptic techniques. The diorama shows what the ward would have been like while Lister was working there between 1860 and 1869. The ward was later named after Lister in honour of his achievements. Each of the twelve beds is below a window and the room is heated by a central fireplace, above which hangs a painting of Lister. This diorama was originally made for display at the Wellcome Institute for the History of Medicine.
