Spring balance, London, England, 1900-1950
The weights of babies were recorded using this balance. It measures up to 16lbs (7.2kg). It was used in hospitals. The spring stretched when the child was placed in the pan. The measurement was then read. Babies are now usually weighed regularly after they are born to monitor their early growth.
