Ceramic figure of Shen Nung, China, 1800-1920

Shen Nung is known as the Divine Farmer. He is the mythological founder of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Thousands of years ago, he is believed to have tasted thousands of plants and recorded their medicinal or poisonous effects. Herbs and plants restore the patient’s individual balance of yin and yang and restore them to health in TCM. Yin and yang are the two parts of qi or life force.
