‘Helping hand’ orthopaedic aid, England, 1981
The Occupational Therapy Department at Brompton Hospital used this ‘helping hand’. It is a simple grasping device. It was developed to aid disabled people, particularly those with arthritis and rheumatism. People with these conditions often find picking things up and grasping small objects difficult. This is because their hand joints can become swollen and stiff.
