Eyesight that deteriorates with age is something that affects most of those who live into adulthood. This magnifying glass can be adjusted to be the correct distance from the subject and could be used as a reading aid. It was made by Carpenter and Westley, specialist manufacturer of optical equipment. These included magic lanterns, microscopes, kaleidoscopes and magnifying glasses. The optical principles of magnifying glasses have been experimented with for thousands of years.
