Children's Apperception Test, Australia, 1950

This Children’s Apperception Test (C.A.T) features images of animals in human situations. The child’s responses to them were analysed. Responses included whether they identified heroes or villains or highlighted situations of conflict and punishment. They revealed the child’s unconscious fantasies. Dr Leopold Bellak (1917-2000) devised the test in 1950. It was published by the Australian Council for Educational Research. It was used at the Institute of Education, University of Liverpool.
