The dynamometer measured ‘strength of grip and arm musculature’. Tracking tasks measured dexterity and speed. Seebohm Rowntree claimed good chocolate packers had ‘very agile fingers and flexible arms’. Tests selected workers with these qualities. The dynamometer was made in the US by Chicago-based C. H. Stoelting Company. It was used from 1949-1950 on the University of Aberdeen’s Experimental Education course.
