Commemorative royal wedding mug.
The marriage of HRH Prince of Wales and Lady Diana Spencer was commemorated by this ceramic mug. Mugs like this were presented to all child patients at the Lord Mayor Treloar Orthopaedic Hospital, Alton, England. The hospital opened in 1908. It originally specialised in treating children with orthopaedic conditions primarily caused by tuberculosis and polio. It combined treating physically disabled people with education and schooling for long-term patients. The facilities were often visited by important or famous people. This was in recognition of its good work and the bravery of the children. Princess Diana visited the Treloar school herself in 1989. The school flourishes today. However, the hospital closed in the 1990s.
