Michele Clements (1929-2002) was a specialist in hearing in foetuses and young children. She was originally an ear, nose and throat specialist. She became interested in foetal hearing by accident. A pregnant woman came into the hospital, convinced her baby had died. Dr Clements’ pager bleeped and the foetus reacted with a strong kick. Clements used this example of an audiometer. An audiometer tests hearing. She developed the novel Pre and Post-Natal (PPN) Detector. Her research suggested the unborn foetus is not as isolated as initially thought.
