Leaflet, ‘The Science of Tridosha’, United States, 1956
‘The Science of Tridosha: an analysis of the three cosmic elements in medicines, food and diseases’ attempted to integrate homeopathy with Ayurvedic medicine in India. It was written by Indian homeopath Benoytosh Bhattacharyya. In Ayurveda, three doshas (vata, pitta and kapha) govern health and illness. Each dosha must be in balance with the others for wellbeing. They can influence appearance and personality. Ayurvedic treatments attempt to redress the balance when you become ill. Bhattacharyya used homeopathic ideas of ‘like curing like’. He applied this to the Ayurveda concepts of wellbeing, mixing two medical traditions. Bhattacharyya claimed this method cured numerous patients.
