'Cancer Vixen - a true story', graphic novel, United Kingdom, 2007
“What happens when a shoe-crazy, lipstick-obsessed, wine-swilling, pasta-slurping, fashion-fanatic, single-forever, about-to-get-married big-city girl cartoonist with a fabulous life finds … a lump in her breast?” This is the tag line for the graphic novel Cancer Vixen by Marisa Acocella Marchetto, an American cartoonist. The book relates the experience of her eleven-month, successful fight against breast cancer, from diagnosis to cure. A percentage of the profits from the book are given to the Breast Cancer Research Fund and the Cancer Vixen Fund. The book is now being made into a film. Worldwide, breast cancer is the second most common cancer – after lung cancer.
