'Normal people don't need drugs' was a slogan promoting the idea that drug users were socially ‘abnormal’. The Central Council for Health Education hoped to discourage young people trying drugs by illustrating ideals of wholesome young people leading healthy outdoor lifestyles. Social and cultural upheaval during the ‘swinging’ 1960s meant increased drug experimentation among young people. There was a growing awareness of drug abuse.
