Wonderlab: The Statoil Gallery

Inspired by the power of wondering, Wonderlab: The Statoil Gallery will ignite curiosity in science and maths through more than 50 cutting edge exhibits and immersive experiences.

Along with high-energy shows, live experiments at our Chemistry Bar, live lightning demos at our giant Tesla coil, plus our brilliant Explainers to facilitate engagement, a school trip to Wonderlab is a must for KS2 and KS3 students.

The gallery will enrich learning across the curriculum themes of forces, electricity, light, sound, matter, space and maths. The exhibits will encourage students to be curious, to look at close details and to be creative – skills that are invaluable to scientists.

Wonderlab is open for different year groups on different days - please our calendar to plan your visit:

Age group days in Wonderlab - academic year 2017-18

Please note that the gallery will be closed for a period this Autumn while we carry out some important maintenance works. So for academic year 2017-18, we are accepting group bookings from 16 October onward.

Visits to Wonderlab are free for schools that book the gallery in advance for visits on weekdays during term time. Admission charges apply at other times, please see below for further details.

Download the gallery guide to help you and your students make the most of your visit, and keep the conversation going back at school.

You can find out more about the science and maths behind each of the exhibits using these handy resources:

They're free to download and packed with useful information.

Science Shows

As part of your visit to Wonderlab you can choose to watch one of our epic Science Shows.

When you make your booking, ask us to include a Science Show in your itinerary and we'll reserve seats in one of the following performances across the day (sorry, we can't take requests for specific shows):

  • Live Wire! - Exploring circuits and how your home is powered.
  • Flash! Bang! Wallop! - All about the chemistry of explosions and fire.
  • The Rocket Show - How Newton’s laws of motion get rockets into space and back down again.
  • Under Pressure! - How forces make the seemingly impossible possible (would you sit on a chair of nails?).

These shows are only available in conjunction with a booking for Wonderlab. They are free of charge and last 20 minutes.
