Creative science exploration (KS2 & KS3)

This one-day course looks at how Launchpad's approach to questioning, exploration and open-ended learning can be used to stimulate discussion and excitement about science on a visit , or through practical experimentation in your classroom.

Telling tales: using stories to support science learning in the Early Years (FS & KS1)

Try out techniques for adapting traditional stories to bring out science concepts and vocabulary relevant to early learning goals. You’ll see one of the Museum’s tried-and-tested storytelling sessions. Then you’ll develop your own storytelling session to use in school.

Creating a buzz: planning a primary science week (KS1 & KS2)

Running a science week is highly rewarding, but the task of making it happen can be daunting. We’ll provide advice, contacts and ideas for activities to help you set up a science week at your school. Teachers who have run a science week will share their experience, giving you a realistic picture of the benefits and how to avoid the pitfalls. You will try some science week activities and draw up a plan of action based on what you have learned from the day.

Teaching science in the Early Years and KS1 (FS & KS1)

Explore how creative approaches can be used in science in the Early Years. You’ll try activities and share ideas that give children first-hand experience of exploration, observation, and problem-solving. You will also experience how the Science Museum can support and enhance the learning of science and literacy at Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1.

Science Newswise for teachers (KS4)

Through this activity-based workshop you’ll examine the key characteristics of science news reporting and what students should know about the processes involved. You’ll explore how to encourage young people to engage with science in the news and equip them to evaluate and discuss critically what they read, see and hear.
