Short films

Short films are a great way to start a lesson - not only can they create interest and intrigue, but they can also provide a lot of information about the topic, giving students the knowledge they need to have an informed discussion.

Children in Energy - fuelling the future

Short films can either be whole stories like the films that we have made at the Science Museum or they can be film clips, TV shows or even YouTube videos.

This film is set in 2014 and tells the story of Adam, the first man to be implanted with an embryo and whose baby will be delivered in the next few weeks. The film looks at the reasons why Adam has decided to go through this risky process, as well as some of the reactions that society has had to him and his child. It also explores the science behind how he became pregnant and some of the effects the pregnancy has had on his body. Running time approx. 4 mins.

This film is set in 2021 and follows the story of Clarissa, who is told on her 18th birthday that she is a clone of a woman who donated an egg. Clarissa talks about why her parents decided to have a clone for a child and some of the reactions that those close to her had when she told them the truth. Although this film does not look closely into the science and process behind human cloning, Clarissa does describe what it feels like to be a clone and what it would be like to meet her parent clone. Running time approx. 4 mins.
