All aboard! We’re off to meet George Stephenson, a pioneering railway engineer and inventor of the world-famous Rocket locomotive.

Hear how George’s curiosity about how machines work led him to become the ‘father of the railways’. Let him tell you about the legendary race to crown his Rocket as the best locomotive, and the lasting impact of his work on our railways today.

Our costumed character portraying George Stephenson offers plenty of opportunities to ask questions as he brings to life his story of success in the Industrial Revolution.

This event is recommended for supporting classroom work about Victorians, the Industrial Revolution and transport. It’s also a perfect accompaniment to a visit to the Energy Hall, Making the Modern World and James Watt and our world.

Cost: £3 per student, accompanying adults free. Booking terms apply..
