For a long time we haven't given a second thought to the amount of energy we use. Now people across the globe are taking a good hard look at the way they live and work to help reduce the impact their activities have on the environment.
The National Museum of Science and Industry - which comprises the Science Museum and sister sites around the country - is taking a stand and has set up small groups of people, known as Green Teams, to help us use energy more efficiently.
Since 2002 our Sustainable Development Unit has been advising staff and visitors on how to improve our use of energy, water and waste. At our Wroughton site we have introduced a scheme to recycle metals, wood, plastics, cardboard, paper and electrical equipment.
At the National Museum of Photography, Film and Television in Bradford, the Green Team has been carrying out a special investigation of office energy use and has set up a number of recycling schemes.
