  Fossil fuels / Key points

- Fossil fuels are stores of energy formed from the remains of plants and animals that were alive millions of years ago.

- Coal, oil and gas are examples of fossil fuels. They are also known as non-renewable sources of en1ergy.

- Fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas will eventually run out. Some scientists believe that oil could run out in the next 40 years, while others say there are plenty more fossil fuels - we just haven't found them yet.

- Before these fossil fuels are used up we will have to switch to other sources for the energy we need.

- There are many uses for fossil fuels. They can be burned in power stations to make electricity or burned in homes for heating and cooking. Oil can be made into fuel for transport as well as many other materials, including plastic.
